Seattle University names Maura Mast as first woman president
Seattle University named Maura Mast as the school’s 23rd president Thursday, the first woman in the school’s 135-year history to hold the title.
A mathematician by trade, Mast had previously spent a decade as the dean at Fordham College in New York City. She will succeed Eduardo Peñalver, who left the university in March to lead Georgetown University.
Mast, who was unanimously selected by the board of trustees, will begin Sept. 1. Former president Stephen Sundborg was serving as the interim president during the board's national search.
She’ll take on leadership of the school as it folds in Cornish College of the Arts following a merger agreement in 2024.
