Augusta to vote on referendum during spring election
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -On April 7s ballot, there is an operational referendum from the Augusta school district. It seeks to close a budget gap before heading into the next school year.
The district is asking for $375,000 each year for the next two school years. According to its website, the district is projected to have a budget shortfall of $630,000 next year and a gap of roughly one-and-a-half million dollars in the next five years.
Reed Pecha, the superintendent of Augusta school district, says there would still need to be cuts if the referendum passes.
We wanted to show a good faith effort to our taxpayers that we are making significant decisions, tough decisions, Pecha said. Were looking at our entire operational system to see where we can try to cut as much as possible without ruining the student experience. Hopefully, they can reciprocate by agreeing to this referendum.
