Some 650 doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners authorized their union to call an open-ended strike across 57 Allina Health clinics in Minnesota and Wisconsin, as negotiations over a first labor contract governing wages and benefits enter the third year.
Union leaders have not yet called a strike, which requires a 10-day notice, hoping that the threat alone will be enough to jumpstart negotiations that have failed to produce a contract after more than 50 bargaining sessions.
Allina has really not come to the table with proposals that would keep primary care and urgent care sustainable, said Dr. Matt Hoffman, a union leader and family physician at Allina Vadnais Heights Clinic, at a news conference on Friday.
Hoffman said 90% of union members who voted supported authorizing a strike.
