The pawpaw: America's forgotten native fruit finds new popularity

I've seen them growing in the wild in our national parks here but there are signs forbidding picking them. They are also sold in paw paw festivals in MD, WV, and other states. There are stuff made with paw paws that are sold in some stores.

That is main reason they've been out of popularity. I think their range is expanding as the climate moves miles north each year.

Being from Missouri, and growing up on a farm with lots of woods (and a few pawpaw trees), I've enjoyed many a pawpaw in my life. They're delicious!

I didn't like them.

They tasted like over ripened bananas.

The consistency of the fruit was mushy or custard like.

I didn't like them.
