What's for Dinner, Sat., Jan. 31, 2026

Last edited Sat Jan 31, 2026, 07:18 PM - Edit history (1)

Snow emergency--will post back later.

I was coming home on the private road to my house and a neighbor was walking her dog on this road. I had to swerve to avoid her and now my car is stuck. It's too cold and too dark to get it out. Maybe tomorrow I can call a tow truck.

I had the most delicious dinner in the car, too! But I can't go get it now because of the icy conditions and my knee, which was injured in a fall on this ice.

I'll make do with last night's chicken thighs (Asian sticky thighs). Will also conjure up a salad of some sort and maybe some broccoli as a side dish.

Lean burger, lots of tomatoes, cabbage, etc.

Damned Instacart never delivered my order!

Enjoy!

Boneless breasts double egged and breaded then pan fried. Our building in Panama doesn’t have any gas lines so when we renovated the kitchen, we got a Bosch four element cooktop and a Bosch oven insert beneath the cooktop. The Archeologist doesn’t like to cook with electric so she’s learning to use this hi-tech device with a hard-to-read touch screen. However, the chicken was delicious!

She served it with steamed broccoli and yellow rice. Chocolate ice cream for dessert.

What an ordeal! I hope your dinner can be reheated. Don’t supposed it’s going to go bad out in the big fridge, at least.

Whoever it was who posted about having chili last night, I did indeed make my own. Brilliant choice! It’s currently absolutely frigid outside, which made getting my laundry in and out an ordeal (my bathroom utility space can only hold half my big laundry pair, so son ran power to the outside for the dryer and got me a protective cover that zips over it when not in use), but Sarasota is currently super windy, rainy, and we’ve had reports of FLURRIES to the north of us.Spent an hour out there besides trying to set up a shelter for our outdoor cat (a feral we love but who can’t come inside because we have four parrots and two indoor cats, and she’s a fearsome hunter and has already been traumatized when we tried to bring her in out of a hurricane).

But I digress. Chili. Mess of pinto and black beans, roasted corn, jalapeños, and half a bag of Quorn (meatless) nuggets for good measure, some fresh tortilla chips for dipping, and I’m in heaven.

I'm amazed! My friend from Treasure Island, roughly an hour north of you, hasn't told me about the weather there but I heard reports of snow. Of course, we haven't had mail service since the storm came last Thursday. Today I noticed the mailbox was stuffed, but I wasn't able to retrieve the mail because my hands were full.

Your chili looks fabulous!

probably pipe up in agreement with your knee, if your body is anything like mine! Stay warm, NJCher! And good luck with this storm. We're thinking of you and sending you warm, safe vibes.

I'm lucky to get some help, but the independent streak in me is fighting to try to do it myself.

Went out to eat before seeing a movie. I had moo shu vegetables with tofu and my wife had shrimp in garlic sauce. We shared, of course. Cheers!🥂
Cher, I’d help you get your car unstuck if I was nearby.

I now have 3 movie star handsome guys who are getting ready to dig it out! Not only that, but they are all smart, too!

How I ever got this lucky I will never understand.
