I looked for her earlier and found her in one of her favorite spots in the basement. I petted her, which she seemed to like. Later I went looking for her again and couldn't find her anywhere. I was in a panic until I finally found her on a pile of clothes in my bedroom closet (new spot). I sat with her and gave her scritches and she purred. I picked her up and sat down on the bed, put her my lap and petted her and she purred the whole time.
I decided to call my regular vets tomorrow to see if I can get her in. They all know her over there and it's privately owned. If I can't, then of course, I'll have to go to the emergency vet. Last year when I took Martini there, I got lost (Mapquest sucks) and drove around aimlessly for 45 minutes. I'm sure it would be 10 times worse at night.
My regular vets are expensive but not as expensive as the emergency vet would be. I hate to have it come down to money; after all, what price do I put on my cats' health? Unfortunately, since I retired, money always has to be a factor in everything.
I hope my pet friends here at DU will understand and not judge me too harshly.

(730 posts)Obviously money always has to be a consideration for us retirees. Also want to make mention of, for future reference , Pets Best insurance. The monthly cost was worth it when my girl recently had over $3,000 in vet bills and now has over $122 in monthly meds cost. I'd already met the $500 deductible so they reimbursed 80% and without that the $3,000+ would have been tough.
My guys only have it because the foster agency that took them in (after my friend died early in the pandemic) set up the insurance and I kept it because they pointed out that my girl's preexisting issues would make getting insurance difficult in the future. I'm so glad I did because the cost through the years has been well worth it now that she's racking up big vet bills.
I often say the cats have better insurance than I do and it's not entirely a joke.
I realize Holly's current situation wouldn't be covered but for future reference, it's turned out to be worth the cost for my guys.

(3,522 posts)That's certainly something to consider. I wonder if I could get pet insurance at their advanced age. Holly is 15 and Martini is going to be 15 on the 4th.
Anyway, thanks again!
