There are a lot of critical viewpoints on the internet over this rumor. Not sure what the owners were thinking, but they could have done much better...
The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to hire McCarthy as their next head coach, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday, per sources. The team later announced they've verbally agreed to terms with McCarthy.
McCarthy, 62, takes over the helm in Pittsburgh after Mike Tomlin stepped down after 19 seasons with the organization on Jan. 13.
McCarthy, who spent this past season away from the sidelines, becomes the 17th head coach in Steelers history and the fourth since 1969. The Steelers previously had Chuck Noll (1969-1991), Bill Cowher (1992-2006) and Tomlin (2007-2025) coaching consistency that provided the organization with stability for the last couple of decades. The Steelers hope McCarthy, who grew up in Pittsburgh, can do the same.

(14,747 posts)His guest was Tom Pelissero, an "insider" on the NFL network. He said that, despite spats they'd had previously, the two are actually quite close and talk frequently.

(14,747 posts)I don'ts care one way or the other. I'm just repeating what an NFL insider who works for the league's network says, but it's nice to hear from anonymous sources contradicting him, I guess.

Rodgers is critical of so many people - he thinks he is smarter than anyone who gives him direction.
I can't say anything negative about McCarthy. I knew he'd end up somewhere this season. His wife is from Green Bay, so they lived in GB for the last year.

(22,759 posts)If Rodgers wants to play another year, he'll have to play for McCarthy again. That ought to cement his retirement.
