DU Community Help
Related: About this forumI'm moving soon. Will disconnecting and moving my computer interrupt my DU membership when I reconnect
at my new home?
My computer guy will be doing this. What does he need to know so when I reconnect I will be "recognized" at DU as CTyankee?

(8,452 posts)Just log back in from your web browser with your username and password.
You can log into DU from any computer anywhere as long as you have your username and password.

(12,424 posts)and chose "Open link in InPrivate window".
Chrome has "Open in Incognito window"
Up showed the DU page with me not signed in. There is a "Sign In" tab on the top far right. I signed in with my user name and password,
Then I closed the window.
This did not interfere with or screw up what I was doing before in DU.

Just keep track of your password. Although DU probably has a system to set up a new password using the email address you registered with.

(697 posts)I am just finishing a move and, bought a new laptop. I'm definitely not computer literate, but was easily able to set my new puter up, and viola, I'm here.
Others here hopefully will have a better answer than mine, as I only know how to turn this box on.

(3,501 posts)The reason I say that is - I moved recently, and that was my experience.
The only thing that you will need to do is match your computer to a new internet provider (cable or VZ, for example). When you do that you will need the password for your cable or internet service - easy. Whoever connects your cable will show you where to find the password - usually on the back of the router.
If and when you get a new computer, you will need to sign back in to DU. At that time you will need your password. But, if you can't find your password, I believe you can have DU send you an email to reset your password.
Do you have Smart phone? If you want to make sure you can still interact w/ DU, while in the chaos of a move - you can sign into DU from your Smart phone also. If you find your password, go ahead and try it - if it works...you know you found the right password. Then DU will recognize that device, as well. With usernames and passwords, it's all about recognizing the device.
If anything I explained doesn't make sense, feel free to DM me. I am glad to provide more detail in the answers. Mr. Dahlia and I relatively user friendly with this stuff. We have to be - we're old...and we don't have kids or grandkids.
Good luck with the move!

(67,244 posts)we have a landline my kids call me on and we can transfer our existing phone number. Or they email me.
I know, I'm hopeless.

(3,501 posts)You're less tethered to technology, and that has its advantages, as well.
