She was essentially an independent.

We don't know which way she leaned at which points. I admit that I would like to know.

But either way I think we know where she stands right now. She is a loyal, progressive Democrat. And she is a great asset to our party.

Or take John Kerrys wife, she used to be a Republican.
Alot of people change over time and some change so much they decide the party they used to belong to isnt for them any more for whatever reason.

Besides shes doing a good enough job where she is and I for one dont want to risk one of the extremist Republicans winning her seat, I mean they are so nutty they make the North Korean government look pleasant and reasonable.
