Upshot: Jacksonville to welcome new professional women's basketball league

Is Jacksonville ready for some basketball?

Jacksonville will be the headquarters and the home of the first-ever franchise in the new Upshot League for women's basketball, announced Monday at the Community First Igloo.

The city will be among four to six markets planned for a May 2026 launch, with the First Coast's team to compete at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, under Jacksonville Icemen owner and chief executive officer Andy Kaufmann, will operate the Jacksonville team, which has yet to be named.
