UPSHOT Women's Basketball League unveils new Greensboro team name and head coach
GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Friday, Zawyer Sports & Entertainment announced the name and head coach for Greensboro's new professional league women's basketball team.
The new UPSHOT league team will be called the Greensboro Groove.
Janice M. Washington will lead the team as head coach. Washington has nearly 20 years of college coaching experience, most recently at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. She led the team to back-to-back CIAA North Division Titles in 2022 and 2023, and the school's first-ever NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament appearance in 2022.
The Greensboro Groove is set to begin play in May 2026. Home games will be played at Novant Health Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Complex.
