(75,886 posts)My insignificantly personal impressions/conclusions from sporatic rehashing over these 50 years.
* The protest movement was majorly if not entirely fueled by opposition to the Draft.
* Hostility to the military became emblematic of being anti-war.
* Adding the corruption of the war, recruitment declined with depreciation of "service."
* The main lesson the NeoCons learned from Vietnam was to go all-vounteer, no Draft.
* To go all-volunteer the first step was to rehabilitate the image of Service & treatment of veterans,
hence, the campaign of thank-you-for-your-service.
* It's apparent that voluneer numbers weren't enough, hence the replacement of the one-year-tour in Vietnam by multiple years' tours in Iraq/Afghanistan.
************** KRASNOV has been insulting and depreciating military service his entire time, not to mention turning it, along with all other government employment, into his own personal Mob property. So, back to the war crimes and the demolishing of another fundamental pillar of non-personal cult loyalty.
