Beautifully expressed.
Oddly, I am currently working on a novel in which Deux ex Machina literally figures in a political power struggle in the 14th century.

Of course, it was exponentially easier to manufacture a “miracle” in the 14th century.

Who will descend from the heavens to save us now?
