10. What I have trouble understanding about this "war"

is why the IDF didn't simply go in and take full operational control over the strip, and institute a regular occupation regime, instead of spending two years bombing the place to rubble.

It's a very small area and it doesn't seem like it should have been that difficult. They could have at least taken control over hospitals, other important infrastructure, and distribution points for aid. Unless, of course, the objective was always simply to eliminate the population one way or another.

Maybe someone could explain it to me.
