(12,309 posts)will come before he is finished with ANY scheme he thinks of a legacy, as victory- delusions aside. That sort of thing creates resentment and destructive lashing out. A tantrum. Then- and this seems true for the public record of ANY really bad evil behavior- there is no final change of heart. They just disappear somewhere at the Dark Gate, none of their deeds receiving any just accountability except maybe a violent death. His cronies keep egging him on past any doubt or change or repentance. He has much less chance than the fictional Faust. He only covers over his fears with more evil.
But if he did make the only great thing he could possibly do, a public repentance and some reversal of his damaged life, that would be of an act of extraordinary rarity of spiritual power. It is the ONLY thing that could do not to end up on the forgotten trash heap- and infinitely worse if what haunts the Hamlet soul be true.
He still has time enough to pull off THAT impossible change of heart. Never enough to undo the damage.
