Missing my soulmate of 20+ years and my beautiful mama today; both were staunch anti-fascists (he was raised in post-WW2 England and lived the aftermath of Hitler there, and my mom's dad bled on the fields of the Argonne Forest in WW1). The only silver lining is not having to see how badly both of their hearts would be shattered by what is happening now.
I dumped most of my MAGA cousins when they had the NERVE to criticize my mom for writing postcards to voters in the couple last years of her life.
The last straw was in early 2021 when most of them couldn't even be bothered to show up (even on ZOOM!) for the memorial of the woman who gave up her entire life at age 18 to move to California and help her sister raise all six of their wh!te, privileged asses. Even worse, they went on to have about thirteen kids among them, and both my mom and I were the designated family babysitters for nearly ALL of my second cousins, and I mean sometimes for WEEKS at a time.
Out of six cousins, just two showed up along with four of their thirteen children. I told one of the second cousins (the one to whom I'm closest) that it was like the trash took itself out that day because I know which ones I NEVER need to speak to again.
