7. Yes, it would take a long time for the world to trust us again

And maybe never. They thought we were crazy when we elected GW Bush twice, but that was followed by a reasonable, sane president, Obama, so I think they gave us a pass. After all every country makes mistakes now and then. But then we elected Trump TWICE?

So if we make a rational choice the next time, how will they know if another crackpot won't follow, perhaps even worse than Bush and Trump? I think our best days could be behind us.
