In fact a pathological narcissist like him has probably been stung by the allegations and desires to prove the world wrong about it by doing at least occasional things that appear contrary to his handler's interests. Plus Putin is a HIGHLY trained manipulator, and fucking with a dipshit like Trump is child's play to someone with his evil acumen. Put another way he could get Mango Mussolini to do his bidding without the dipshit even having a clue that's what's happening 
At the same time, it may be too shallow of a view to look at the attack on Iran as being wholly contrary to Vlad's interests simply on the basis that Russia has been an ally to Iran. I'm not saying otherwise outright, but there may be aspects to the situation that are not apparent to casual observers (like all of us here). If Iran, in the end, ends up MORE under Russia's control than it was, then we'll know this was always the actual end goal.
