People are in their silos. Most Fox viewers probably have about as much interest in watching MS NOW as MS NOW viewers have in watching Fox. The info is readily accessible, but not unless they go out of their way to look for it, from media they are not inclined to trust in the first place. Which in their case includes even "mainstream" media, like the NY Times.

You're on social media? You get fed what you already believe.

And then there are people who just don't really care about politics. I know a couple of people who I consider woefully misinformed, who I either know or suspect voted for Trump, probably because they get 99% of their info from their spouse/partner and have no desire/motivation to "fact-check" them.

It's similarly easy for people to fall into the beliefs prevalent in their social circle, and in some areas of the country, whatever social circle you're in is likely to include a lot of red.

This comes from thinking about your "MAGA subset" differentiation, which I basically agree with, but then thought about how I even know some not-quite-but-almost-MAGA people who I think are not terrible people. They're not hat-wearers or rally-attenders, but they've drunk the kool-aid.

And then I saw this really interesting take on it from Jordan Klepper (from The Daily Show), who as you may know, has a shtick where he goes to Trump rallies and interviews attendees for comedic effect. Start at 2:20. From there to the end is just 5 minutes.
