35. An ATC friend, who handles AFONE fairly often

Tuesday

tells me that the airports it takes off from and lands at, has a 30 mile NOFLY radius by any aircraft, and they have to maintain a 30 mile wide zone, along the entire flight path......Some have said that AFOne doesn't have a fighter escort, which is bull....there are 6? fighters that surround the plane during any flight..........
Can you imagine, with all the U.S. airliners, foreign aircraft and cargo planes in the air, in those areas, just having to circle around outside the "zone" and what it costs them in additional time and fuel??????????? PLUS the added stress on Air Traffic Controllers and the military/Coast Guard?
