(38,327 posts)As far as I'm concerned, the only way he can reverse the damage he's spent his entire adult life contributing to is to pony up with dirt on his once-fellow Republicans and to go all-out in destroying careers. To get off the fence and expose things that will make his old friends hate him. It's not as if he was a peripheral figure--he was a major conservative political operator (and publisher of right-wing political media) for decades. The people who made up his old income stream won't have him, so he needs a new one. Will the number of voters his switch brings to the Democrats fill a school bus? And will his advertising himself as Democrat cost us more?
He's poisonous and self-serving, and needs to hand over tangible benefits before getting kudos for serving himself.
