(21,666 posts)I was on one of these 3 most well known AP for over a decade after I retired: Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare. All with low monthly premiums and often little or no copays. I had Absolutely no issues regarding quality of care with any of them, even when I developed a cerebral aneurysm & had two stents placed in my brain.
The issue began when I developed a chronic eye condition that required regular life long eye injections ranging from monthly to every 9 weeks. The injections cost almost 3k each. Yup you read that right. When that happened, it triggered a copay of $400 for each injection. That was the point where the Advantage plan lost it's advantage. The monthly premium for a non advantage plan was now less than my copay with the Advantage plan. So, it appears it is not acute medical issues that level the field between Advantage and non Advantage plans, it is some chronic conditions.
