(29,779 posts)In a television series I have followed, the main male character is a retired Marine who is the proprietor of a bar, and has long shaggy hair. In the final episode of the latest season, he finally marries the female lead while wearing his dress blues but with long hair hanging over his ears and his collar. It looked terrible and really ruined the story line. I figured none of the writers had ever been in the military or they would have known better.

My husband and I met while in the Air Force - I was a peds nurse practitioner in the nurse corps, he was a pilot. We were next-door neighbors in the BOQ at Yokota AB in Japan. My husband did the full 20. I was active duty for 4, and a reservist for 8. We got married in 1982.
