PA-01: Bucks Commissioner Bob Harvie wins primary nod to challenge Fitzpatrick [View all]

Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie won the Democratic nomination Tuesday to challenge five-term Republican U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District this fall.

Harvie prevailed, with support from a national Democratic group, over mathematician and former U.S. Senate climate advisor Lucia Simonelli.

The Associated Press called the race for Harvie less than two hours after polls closed. Harvie was leading with nearly 30% of the vote with more than half of polling places reporting about 10 p.m.

Harvie declared victory less than an hour after polls closed at a campaign event in the Philadelphia suburbs where Gov. Josh Shapiro and Lt. Gov. Austin Davis also spoke.
