It's not easy to do. I use the same chain of clinics in my metro area, and have since I moved here. That's the first step. Then, I stick with the doctor I chose, after seeing a couple of others. Turne out he started working my clinic about the same time I started going. I liked him the first time I saw him, so requested him as my primary care doctor. Years later, he told me that i was the first patient to do that.

Then, when it came time to choose a Medicare Advantage plan, I chose one that is based on my chain of clinics. These days, both I and that doctor have moved, but I continue to see him, even it it means driving across the metro. It really helps that he knows me and has seen me multiple times over the years. And I know him and his way of practicing medicine. He's an internist, which is a good basic choice as a primary care doctor. I stay with him, because he lets me, even though he doesn't take on new primary care patients.

If it's possible to develop a relationship with a doctor you like, it's definitely worth doing. But, it's not always easy.
