There, but for the grace of God, go I, as the saying goes. Substitute the Great Spirit for God, and I agree completely. My best friend in Dallas, who has made a ton of money just by having a knack for it, donated a goodly portion of his net worth to build a park in Dallas in a part of town that could really use a boost. It seemed more practical (and enduring!) than donating $15 to every single person in the metroplex. Some people legitimately at the end of their rope ask for help. There is no shame in that any more than there is any shame in having made out well.

Or, substitute "Fortune" for "the grace of God". Joan Baez sang it back when.
