...which also used 8" floppies to store what were then considered to be colossal-sized audio samples. Little did we know that by the 2000s, we would have literally gigabyte-sized samples streaming from hard disk (Tascam's "Gigasampler" software).

I think the later versions of the Fairlight used some of the very first commercially-viable hard drives, as 8" floppies weren't too practical for live performances, and those machines were going on concert tours all over the world.
