I agree there is a degree of hypocrisy lurking here, but I don’t think the criticism of Machado in this thread has been solely based on praising Trump. The West’s meddling in South American affairs is long and troublesome at the least. To reduce the arguments against awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Machado to your simple point about Zelensky working with Trump is disingenuous and perhaps says more about your political leanings than it makes any point about the discussion here. “There are actually a lot”? There’s actually a lot of capitalists who would prefer to bolster puppet governments that a friendly to US industry than governments that work for their own people, but there are actually a lot that don’t. Also, Thatcher types in South America have historically shown more authoritarian tendencies than Margaret was ever allowed.
