there are a pile of little "commuter plane" sized airports,
But the point is that right now, the idea of them "privatizing" it all would mean either they are PAID by the feds under contract and that money goes bye bye during a lapse or that large contingent of privately-owned/run airports would have to pass that full cost onto the consumer.

I have family members who will be flying from Oregon to JFK over the Xmas holidays. I worry for their safety.

Maybe a penny tax on each ticket for a company like the USPS that pays and trains the controllers.
