(46,369 posts)14. Supreme Court Rule 44allows the losing party to petition for reconsideration
The petition must be filed within 25 days and can only be granted if supported by one of the justices who supported the decision to which the reconsideration petition is directed. Consequently such petitions almost never are granted.
So, while the losing parties in Dobbs and the immunity case (notwe) could have filed a reconsideration petition they didnt because they knew it wouldnt have been granted.
