the tulip nebula plus a black hole [View all]

the tulip nebula SH2-101. the nebula is located about 6000 light years away. also in the image near the top center is an object known as cygnus x-1. it is the first black hole detected. it is part of a binary star system with a supergiant star which is the what we see. the black hole is actually located about 20% of the distance between the earth and the sun. the black hole is estimated to be only about 300 kilometers in diameter but has a mass 21x the mass of the sun. its actually further away than the nebula around 7300 light years from earth
this is 10 hours of exposure time in my back yard
