It sounds like Fading Kitten Syndrome, perhaps also flea anemia. You did what you knew to do for him and kept him fed, warm, and most importantly, LOVED, for the last week of his short life. I'm sure he'll tell the others all about you on the other side of Rainbow Bridge.
