Perhaps Denmark might create a shared responsibility (of sorts) with Canada, wherein Greenland remains an autonomous territory, but is newly aided by both Denmark and (now) Canada. After all, Canada is the nearest large landmass nearby to Greenland.

Monies need not be exchanged, simply an 'agreement' of mutual services.
