President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that Ukraine believes Russia is preparing to launch a new offensive the Donbas this coming spring. In a video address during a visit to the Donetsk region, Zelenskyy said it was important the Ukrainian military was in strong positions should the attack come. Donetsk, one of the four regions which make up the Donbas, has become synonymous with Ukraine’s fight for survival.
Battlefield developments in Donetsk are considered a gauge of each side’s fortunes in the war, now in its fifth year. The future of land within the Donbas currently occupied by Russia has thwarted progress in recent rounds of negotiations brokered by the United States. Zelenskyy was also seen meeting with soldiers from multiple units and presenting them with medals. - 03/07/2026.
