and many reputable people disgraced themselves to taut evidence that turned out to be bogus.

Trump is nowhere on that trajectory. The majority of US people are not in support of what he's doing. He will get impeached. Which I think is a shallow threat unless the Senate follows through with their end of the responsibility.
