Democratic party to put a moratorium on sports. But, a large segment of the population is addicted to sports. It is very much socially encouraged to be addicted to sports. It isn't new, Juvenal wrote about it 2,000 years ago. In the US over the last century we have given up our citizenship to become consumers. And one of the chief products of consumption is sports.

When an addict has the subject of their addiction taken away they rarely thank the one who removed their addiction. If the Democratic party was able to put a moratorium on sports they would never win another election in the country. They would forever be the party which "took away your sportsball".

Juvenal, Satire 10.77–81
