8. I'd guess more than a few are still loyal to the constitution

rather than to a deeply flawed man.

One of Himmler's most infamous assertions was that the police were of an order whose members must be able to “see things, do things, and never speak of them” as he argued repeatedly that true loyalty requires silence and consent, and love of country requires imprisonment without trial resting on three claims: the nation was in a state of internal danger, legal procedures were too slow or weak, his own will replaced legal accountability.

Sounds damned familiar to me in the here and now.
