We are already Canadian citizens now that the old law was repealed; the application is for papers affirming that we have provided the necessary paperwork to the Canadian government proving it. In other words, we don't need to apply for citizenship itself because we already have it. That's my understanding. Anyway, genealogy buff relative is working on it!
