Freaky ... [View all]

The spider's a juvenile orchard orbweaver (Leucauge venusta) and it's the size of a pinhead. I collected the spider outdoors on Sept. 23 and brought it indoors to do some closeups. The spider's on the jar's lid which is atop a page from my daily calendar. This was a random shot I took while setting up for another shot.

Photo of an adult orchard orbweaver, which I posted on September 19.

Here's the freaky part: While viewing a webpage identifying the spider this morning, one dropped down from my laptop's screen! I think it might've been on my spider plant, which I brought indoors yesterday (we had our first frost last night).

The spider's latin name is highlighted at the bottom of the photo; the spider's at upper left. I used my cellphone to take these two shots.

A better view of the spider

Here's my photo showing the distinctive pattern on the adult's abdomen. I'll post more photos of the spider later.

A freaky Friday, indeed!
